Partlee New Zealand · Planned · 2028

NZ

Auckland and Wellington.

New Zealand's Indian-origin community is smaller than Australia's but exceptionally well-integrated, concentrated in Auckland. Partlee New Zealand will be a focused, Auckland-led practice with a cross-border emphasis.

Available today, via the cross-border practice.

NZ residents with India ties already served through the cross-border practice. NZ-jurisdiction matters wait for the NZ empanelment in 2028.

The regulatory landscape

New Zealand Law Society.

New Zealand has a single national bar - the New Zealand Law Society - under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006. The framework is closer to Singapore than to Australia on non-lawyer ownership (generally not permitted), but advertising rules are reasonable.

Statutes and rules

  • §Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006
  • §Lawyers and Conveyancers Act (Lawyers: Conduct and Client Care) Rules 2008
  • §Family Proceedings Act 1980
  • §Family Court Act 1980
  • §Property (Relationships) Act 1976

The honest read

Smallest panel; cleanest framework.

New Zealand's small population means the empanelled-firms panel will be modest - perhaps 6-10 firms at launch, concentrated in Auckland and Wellington. The regulatory framework is clean and well-documented; the main constraint is non-lawyer ownership restrictions and the Conduct and Client Care Rules' anti-touting provisions, which are similar in tone to India's Rule 36 (though less aggressively enforced).

How Partlee will operate

The architecture, localised.

  • 01

    Technology intermediary. Subscription empanelment.

  • 02

    Empanelled NZ-admitted lawyers.

  • 03

Tight observance of Conduct and Client Care Rules on advertising and touting.

  • 04

Cross-border to Australia and India built in by default.

  • 05

Smaller launch panel (6-10 firms) - quality over volume.
