The regulatory landscape
Provincial law societies (LSO, Law Society of BC, Barreau du Québec, etc.).
Canadian legal services are regulated at the provincial level. The Federation of Law Societies of Canada coordinates model rules but each province writes its own. Non-lawyer ownership is generally prohibited though Ontario and BC have piloted Alternative Business Structures discussions in the last decade without final adoption.
